Aleyè Nomade No. 51 – The Onyx Candle Holders

These candle holders are conceived as an exercise in restraint and counterweight: slender vertical shafts held in equilibrium by compact, faceted bases. Rising with measured calm, the candles appear almost suspended, their height amplified by the density of the stone below. The bases unfold in a sequence of folded planes, recalling vegetal growth frozen at the moment of emergence, or geological pressure articulated into form.

Carved from pale onyx, the material is neither opaque nor fully translucent, but exists in a liminal state, catching and diffusing light with subtle variation. Veins move through the stone like sedimentary records, ensuring that no two pieces are identical. When lit, the flame does not merely sit atop the object; it completes it, activating the stone’s depth and revealing internal tonal shifts that remain dormant in daylight.

As a pair, the holders establish a quiet dialogue—never perfectly mirrored, never entirely symmetrical. They are less decorative supports than instruments for light, grounding flame in matter, and transforming a fleeting element into something architectural and deliberate.
