Black Chérie brings the incense ritual into a composition of low mass and vertical line. A broad, glossy basin sits close to the surface, while a slender support rises from the centre. The contrast directs attention upward without losing the grounded character of the base.
The dark finish gives reflection a more contained quality. Light appears across the glossy surface without making the body transparent or visually open. Its outline remains compact, providing a stable plane beneath the finer movement above it.
The support holds the incense while the basin below receives falling ash. As the stick burns, the object records the ritual in small deposits that gather on its surface. Its function is not separate from its form: the horizontal basin and vertical support each make their purpose visible.
